Perfect for those interested in learning more about what the Bible actually says but who have neither the time nor the interest to read the actual thing.
Ever thought you should know more about what's in the Bible, not because you believe in any religion, but because it's the most read book in history? Before you dust off the family Bible, or reach into the hotel bed stand, The Nonbeliever's Guide to Bible Stories will save you a lot of time and trouble. Coupling an editor's pen with a skeptic's commentary and humorist's wit, it offers the highlights of each book of the Bible, from Genesis to Revelation, and distills them into quick, entertaining, bite-sized chunks. It's all here the characters, famous quotes, tall tales, and references often heard in film, music, art, literature, and conversation. You'll also learn about all the sex, murder, harlotry, intrigue, magic tricks, ghosts, and sin that help fill sermons on Sunday mornings.

As someone who has read the bible several times, this is a fantastic book to have around. It's an enjoyable way to review content, and I can share it with my less-dedicated friend. They say reading the bible will make you into a non-believer, and this makes it just that much easier ;)Product details

The Nonbeliever Guide to Bible Stories (Audible Audio Edition) C B Brooks MD Rich Miller Pitchstone Publishing Books Reviews
This abridged version of the bible will save anyone the hassle of combing through 1000+ pages of ancient dialogues, poems, and lineages.
From the perspective of a former Christian, this definitely recaps all of the stories I remember hearing as a child. Several years of church summed up in one afternoon of reading, minus all of the guilt and interpretations that people still argue about. I definitely recommend to anyone interested in the history of Christianity. By the end of this reading, you'll probably wonder how religions such as Scientology are mocked while the similarly obscure story of the Bible is so widely accepted.
I give this a rating of 666 stars, 10 horns, 7 angels, 7 plagues, and 7 bowls of doom.
Amen.
This is a small and fun book. I wanted a summary of the key bible stories and this book supplies it. The author is skeptical of Christianity and some of this comes through in his writing. If you are looking for a neutral book this is not it. The author notes among other occupations he holds he is an amateur comedian and this is evident in his writing. Most of his jokes are pretty funny.
It was a short read, and very quick, which isn't necessarily a bad thing. Some parts had me literally laughing out loud, perhaps by the content described or simply by the light commentary provided by the author. I appreciated that this book wasn't heavy atheistic text I may be a non-believer, but bashing religion aggressively isn't my bag. I'd recommend this to anyone who wants a light overview of the Bible that doesn't take itself too seriously.
For anyone who is studying the bible, this short condensed version is a must. Once you have read this you can then go to your bible for elaboration. Keep in mind that there is more than one version of the bible. Like other religious books, The Book of Mormon, or the Qur'an, there have been many revisions. For instance, the Holy Spirit used to be called the Holy Ghost. It was changed because "Ghost" sounded silly.
I never could imagine that someone could make bible nonsense funny but that's exactly what CB Brooks does. I was spoon fed the bible as a child which made it easy for me to become a non-believer. I'm definitely gifting this book to my 30 something niece ro help her on her journey away from flaky belief. Reading this book was kind of like watching George Carlin's comedy routine about boiling the 10 commandments down to 2...funny stuff!
Anyone who's started to read the Bible finds themselves in a morass of complicated names and places; contradictory statements; and things that flat-out defy logic. I know, "It's a matter of faith" and if that works for you, go for it.
If, however, you prefer to know and understand how and why things work, the Bible probably isn't your first playbook. Trouble is, so many of our allegories and common expressions derive from this tome.
Enter, "The Nonbeliever's Guide to Bible Stories", which provides a synoptic overview of the Bible, providing context for expressions as "the patience of Job". It doesn't attempt to sway believers (although why they'd be reading this slim volume escapes me) and remains true to it's titled promise to guide a non-believer through both testaments. It's a fun, fast read, with just the right blend of wit (or sarcasm), skepticism and commentary.
It's a fun read. Enjoy!
If you want to be culturally literate, you need to know biblical allusions -- no matter how outlandish they are. This book does a great job of summarizing the sections of the Bible to which people refer on a regular basis through cliches and aphorisms (ex Read the handwriting on the wall; babbling on) and doing it in a humorous "Can you believe this is what it ACTUALLY says" kind of way. I read almost the whole thing in one sitting.
As someone who has read the bible several times, this is a fantastic book to have around. It's an enjoyable way to review content, and I can share it with my less-dedicated friend. They say reading the bible will make you into a non-believer, and this makes it just that much easier ;)
